Picture Postcards
Guide
Picture Postcards are
pretend postcards from actual historical time periods, places, and events. Eastman Kodak allowed individuals with
cameras to get their pictures developed into postcards for very cheap and
during the early 1900s picture postcards were the most popular way to keep
family abreast of news.
Rationale: Picture Postcards will allow visual learners
to focus on images and associate them with characters and events. Research demonstrates that synthesizing
information, or taking information and creating new and independent work,
increases understanding and retention.
Instructions: Find and print pictures that are a good
depiction of life at that time. On 4x6
index cards, paste the picture on one side.
Date, address, and write a small paragraph explaining how the picture is
relevant to a pretend life from the picture.
The several postcards may be from a historical person to you, or from
you in a historical setting to a family member.
