A Word Splash integrates vocabulary study with elements of
design. A Word Splash is typically used as a preview activity to generate interest in a topic of study.
Rationale: Designs and
use of creativity, and the use of a preview activity can generate Situational Interest. Viewing a Word Splash forces the brain to
search for associations between the
words.
Instructions: Using blank
paper, randomly place keywords or intended vocabulary on the paper using
color. Design around the words using
color. On a separate sheet of paper, define and identify the words in
alphabetical order.
