Notes and Summary

Guide

In the context of enrichment, Notes are quick notes from an enrichment activity such as listening to a lecture, audio presentation, or documentary or reading a news article, scholarly article, primary source document, chapter, or book.  A summary is a restatement of the main ideas and most important details in a coherent and organized way.

Rationale:  Research demonstrates that extracting main ideas from notes, practicing language to convey meaning and reviewing and organizing information increases understanding and retention.

Instructions:  Find an enrichment activity and take notes.  Write a summary of the enrichment activity and provide the context for, thoroughly explain, and commanding vocabulary and details.
