Guide
A Graphic Organizer is a spatial arrangement of information designed
to display a complex concept, phenomena, or time period. Common Graphic
Organizers are tables, diagrams, webs, and Venn diagrams. A GO
Card is a graphic organizer drawn on one side of an index card and the
label on the other.
Rationale: Research
demonstrates that spatially arranging information increases understanding and
retention. In addition, it allows one to
extract main ideas, identify important concepts and information, and display it
graphically. Using index cards improves
the later utility of the organizer, as the student can use it to study in a
similar manner to Flash Cards.
Instructions: On
4x6 or larger note cards, write the concept title on one side. Illustrate the basic organizer, omitting the
information that needs to be learned. Using
the actual information in at least moderate detail, draw a graphic organizer
shaping information on the white side.
·
Put the topic on one side and the Graphic Organizer
on the other.
·
Illustrate the type of graphic organizer on the
side with the topic; it will help prompt memory during study.
·
Command vocabulary and details.
